Thou Shalt not covet thy neighbors property                                 Our plants and the city council both need sunshine                               My parking lot is full of people buying blighted auto parts                                      I have never been approached about selling  my property, nor am I interested in selling                                  Bristol needs these races, but we don't need this kind of activity, this un-American activity

hank you for visiting the 'Stop the Bristol Land Grab' website.

Did you notice the patriotic theme of this site?  The 'Bristol Land Grab' is un-American, un-constitutional, illegal and immoral.  As Americans, we stand together to fight for our freedoms.  Our country was founded on certain principals that are in jeopardy.  Your country needs your help.

Click here to see Quotes We started developing this website three weeks after the start of the Bristol Land Grab in order for certain property owners to be able to share with their fellow citizens the true facts regarding this attempted hijacking of our rights and lands.  Some of the information on this site has been in the local  news reports but you might have missed it.   And some of the information on this site is brand new for the public.

From the time we started our site until its official launch in October, much has happened.  As a result, some have come to the conclusion that the Bristol Land Grab has stopped.  Others believe that the Bristol Land Grab has just paused.  And some are asking, "What Land Grab?."    Whether you are optimistic that it is over; pessimistic due to the unresolved issues; or just now researching the facts; this site is for you.  Ultimately, the purpose of this site is an exercise in free speech to share the facts as presented in the local news, and our opinions & beliefs to you.

You can click on any of the menu items on the left to read more about the facts regarding the Bristol land grab. The menu items are sequenced in the order we would like for presenting this information; but you can view in any order.   Also, there is a BACK and NEXT button at the top of the menu and at the bottom of each page to help you navigate our site.  Click on the "Stop the Bristol Land Grab" logo at the top of the page to stop the music.  Click again and again to cycle through more patriotic songs.  See music selection.

Taking private property from one private owner and giving it to your buddy, another private citizen, is illegal.  It is nothing short of a communistic philosophy as a basis of the governance of our geological and geographical resources.  This un-American model of wealth redistribution has reared its ugly head in Bristol and must be stopped.

We have provided a quick outline below of this ongoing story.   For a complete and thorough chronological recap , we have almost every press story that has been run on our News Reports page.

The following are the facts as of 10/13/2003:

bullet

On September 3, 2003 the Bristol City Council passed a resolution

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

The resolution stated that studies of "South Bristol" had determined that there was significant blight and deleterious land use.

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

These studies appear not to exist as no property owner has seen them.

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

The resolution's concealed appendix confirmed that "South Bristol" was in fact, just 50 acres directly across the street from Bristol Motor Speedway belonging to 4 separate owners

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

The resolution calls for the Bristol Housing Authority to prepare a redevelopment and urban renewal plan.  (Hereafter referred to as a study by City Officials)

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

The purpose of the study is to accept from the public redevelopment plans for the properties and (according to city officials public statements ) "confirm" that the property is blighted

bullet

Resolution 03-20

bullet

What is Blight?

bullet

The properties are not blight under the law

bullet

What is Blight?

bullet

The properties have 7 businesses that employ 60 people

bullet

There are scores of vacant decaying stores on the Volunteer Parkway that apparently are not blighted

bullet

The study and resolution was secretly requested by Bristol Motor Speedway.  The city leaders concealed this fact from the public and the press even when directly asked if the speedway was involved.

The race track has announced that BMS will not submit plans to the Housing Authority

bullet

BMS halting plans to redevelop

bullet

The city says they will continue the study (now partially funded by the speedway)

bullet

BMS halting plans to redevelop

So, is it over?.................Maybe or Maybe not!

PROBLEM FACTS

bullet

City resolution accusing our property of being blighted and calling for urban renewal plan has not been withdrawn by the city council

bullet

Housing authority is still legally directed and required to conduct a study

bullet

They are still accepting redevelopment plans for our property as far as we know

bullet

Any "developer" could still submit plans to the housing authority

bullet

These plans could be similar to plans the speedway planned to submit

bullet

The threat of property condemnation still exists

bullet

If condemned and sold to a developer, they could still sell the 'newly developed' property to anyone, including the speedway, its parent corporation or a subsidiary corporations

bullet

Jeff Byrd with BMS has stated that "At this point in time, we will not submit any type of redevelopment plan for any property adjacent to Bristol Motor Speedway to the Housing Authority"

bullet

"At this point in time", implies that they reserve the right to do it later

bullet

Our properties are not adjacent, they are across the street

bullet

They say nothing about developers submitting plans on their behalf

bullet

This all sounds picky, but Jeff Byrd has told us himself that the BMS' attorneys review all their public statements carefully so that they do not "in fact" lie.
