Americans have absolute inviolability of their property rights to protect them
from predation. The Fifth Amendment defines the only
time when property can be taken, and only then for a "public purpose", such as a
road, school dam, public-library, courthouse, jail, etc.... Under capitalism, there is no such thing as "just
compensation", for the only truly "just price" is the market price, one
established by voluntary transaction. Value is subjective. It does not
exist in the coveted property itself, but exists in the minds of buyers and
sellers. A sale takes place not when both parties value the property the same,
but when the seller values the money offered to him more highly than he values
the property sold, and when the buyer desires the property more than he desires
the money. 75% of the land grab owners value their property
more than one penny. Portions above quoted or paraphrased from Columnist Richard Draheim, Jr. from his article: Eminent Domain: Robbing the Poor to Give to the Rich, July 4, 1997 The Dallas Libertarian Post ©1997, 1998 Richard N. Draheim, Jr. |
